WorkSafeBC seeks a highly motivated Co-op Student, Stakeholder, Community, and Indigenous Relations to assist in further developing the stakeholder hub and outreach program, researching communication practices, supporting community sponsorships and events, contributing to the community relations and events strategy, supporting transition of enterprise events to the SCIR department. Additionally, they will collaborate with the Indigenous relations team and work on various initiatives such as event planning and community engagement.

This is a four-month full-time positions starting in January 2025.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work primarily from your B.C. home and be on-site in our Richmond office at a minimum of once per quarter to attend team meeting.

What you'll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

Throughout Week 1, you will be partnered with your mentor for training, work on completing training modules, and immersing yourself in the team and the department's work. Together with your manager, you will clarify your role's goals and how to achieve them. During your first week, you may also attend the Bentall Memorial event together with your team in order to build connections in the community.

You will be joining a relatively new department to WorkSafeBC, and through your contributions, you will have a chance to leave your mark on our vision and success.

As an active member of the Stakeholder, Community, and Indigenous Relations (SCIR) team, you will work with team members in providing support to and developing elements of several projects and initiatives, which could include:
  • Support follow up activities from the Fall & Winter 2024 area office sessions to improve community events strategy,
  • Support the Enterprise Events team with delivery of events management strategy and related events (e.g. home show, Day of Mourning, etc.),
  • Help package Corporate and Community sponsorships (brochures, banners, swag items, etc.),
  • Provide tracking, data entry and follow up for stakeholder relations engagement (e.g. webinars, attendance, reaching underserved/marginalized groups, etc.),
  • Supporting various Indigenous relations projects such as sponsorship program, employee resource group, special days, procurement, advisory committee,
  • Stakeholder relationship management (SRM) system:
    • Working with team to update data in current system and develop mailing lists,
    • Support drafting articles and pages for WorkSafeBC's intranet on a variety of topics (e.g. sponsorship events; community engagement follow-up, Indigenous relations initiatives),
  • Supporting SCIR team with ongoing internal and external research on community engagement, sponsorships, Indigenous research grants, etc.

  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritize work and complete tasks within set timelines & at time with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Available to work evenings and weekends when/if required to attend community events with the team

Your background and experience
  • You are a second, third or fourth year student and enrolled in a Business Administration OR Communications Program OR Public Policy Program OR Hospitality Program OR Public Relations Program OR Events Management Program OR Sociology Programs
  • Is interested in research, data collection and analytics
  • Familiarity & interest/knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics or other CRM systems, plus the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint)
  • Some academic or volunteer experience or interest in community engagement
  • Has completed a co-op term or worked in an office setting
