Role Responsibilities
Perhaps you have just finished school and are looking to learn the ropes to kick-start your career in Environmental Protection or Compliance. Maybe you already have an environmental science background but are looking for an adventure and a place to grow. This might be the opportunity for you
The abundance of natural areas and resources required dedicated professionals working together as a team to ensure their protection, preservation, and responsible use.
Come and be a part of that team… Opportunity awaits.
You will provide informed advice to regulated parties and members of the public regarding their actions to protect Alberta's environment and public health. Working within Alberta's environmental legislation, you will take a solutions-oriented approach in addressing and managing environmental challenges. You will consult, provide advice/direction and take steps to enforce legislation when required. In your role, you will respond to public complaints on a variety of issues, and assess compliance with the applicable legislation, and assess and respond to environmental incidents, collect evidence to determine if a contravention has occurred, and conduct reactive inspections to assess regulatory compliance.
Working as part of the Compliance Team as an entry-level Environmental Protection Officer, you may be assigned incident management, desktop audits, investigative, and inspection duties. You will apply the principles of Education, Prevention and Enforcement found in the compliance assurance framework to achieve compliance with the legislation administered by the Department. You will deal with the resolution of a wide variety of environmental issues by assessing environmental incidents and by conducting proactive and reactive inspections to assess regulatory compliance.
Travel and field work within the Region may be required. You will have regular contact with department staff, other government departments, municipalities, agencies, stakeholders, members of the public, special interest groups, and the media.
