The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). This being said the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the King's Privy Council for Canada. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB has a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.

The TSB is a small organization with approximately employees and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner in 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position in Dorval, Québec. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions across Canada with different linguistic profiles.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License - Aeroplane Category with valid Group 1 Instrument Rating, and possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical);
OR
Possession of a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot License - Helicopter Category with a valid Group IV Instrument Rating, and possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of hours flying experience on a variety of single and multi-engine aircraft.

Minimum of hours flying experience as pilot-in-command.

Minimum hours flying experience working with a Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part series and/or CARs series operator.

Experience in supervision of human resources.

Experience in preparing and reviewing comprehensive reports and recommendations.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized Canadian university with acceptable specialization in a discipline relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in aviation accident investigation.
Experience in analyzing and interpreting aviation safety data.
Experience in developing and implementing risk assessment and mitigation strategies in aviation.
Experience in representing an organization in aviation-related forums and conferences.
Experience in working with regulatory bodies and maintaining compliance with aviation regulations.
Experience in aircraft maintenance.
Experience in project management.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the Transportation Safety Board mandate, structure, and activities.
Knowledge of the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act and the Transportation Safety Board Regulations.
Knowledge of the Aeronautics Act, the Canadian Aviation Regulations, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13.
Knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends related to civil aviation, aviation safety, and the aviation industry.
