Introduction

Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified and skilled individual to fill the Wildlife Allocations Biologist position.

Conditions of Employment: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must possess and maintain a valid Class Full Stage 5 Drivers' Licence Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the province, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile Must be able to work outside regular office hours, as required Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort conducting field work (e.g. Carry equipment such as chainsaws and forestry samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions) Qualifications: Essential: Post secondary education in Biology, Wildlife Management or Resource Management program or a related program. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may also be considered. Knowledge of acts and regulations pertaining to wildlife management specific to hunting and trapping. Knowledge of wildlife biology and management with a strong emphasis on the importance of hunting and trapping as a management tool. Experience collecting, managing and analyzing data. Experience using statistical software (e.g. R, SAS). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships. Ability to work independently with organizational and time management skills. Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills. Strong verbal communication skills. Effective written communication skills. Desired: Experience developing and managing wildlife research and monitoring programs. Ability to initiate and complete projects. Duties: Under the general supervision of the Wildlife Allocations Manager, the employee will administer the provincial allocated hunting and trapping programs. This includes the allocation of hunting licences to Resource Tourism Operators, commercial trapping licences, and big game hunting licences awarded through the big game draw system. The incumbent will assist in the development and delivery of the hunter questionnaire program, wildlife population research and management programs, and the hunting and trapping seasons and regulations change process.
