Role Responsibilities
The Continuation and Validation unit of the PNG Tenure Branch has a permanent Senior Land Analyst (LA3) position.
In PNG Tenure Operations, a Senior Land Analyst makes and contributes to decisions that have a direct impact on Alberta’s energy sector and their development of oil and gas in Alberta. The primary responsibility of the Senior Land Analyst is to research, analyze and respond to industry requests. This includes amending or cancelling agreements in accordance with the applicable legislation, regulation, policy and procedures. The Senior Land Analyst also provides technical advice and expertise for the review and analysis of the agreements processed by the unit, which includes processing financial transactions.
Reporting to the Team Lead of the unit, the Senior Land Analyst is responsible for interpreting and applying multiple pieces of legislation when initiating or recommending continuation or validation decisions. The candidate must exercise sound discretion when responding to continuation applications and enquiries from companies, and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The position plays a key role by assisting the Team Lead to foster a strong cohesive working team environment within the Continuation and Validation unit and to develop and maintain strong relationships with Alberta’s energy sector. The Senior Land Analyst manages the day-to-day work distribution across the unit, provides statistics and IT business support for system related issues, and supports the Team Lead in resolving complex continuation and validation decisions. The position acts for the Team Lead in their absence, and coaches/mentors junior staff within their assigned unit.
To be successful in this role, you must have following:
• Excellent written skills to draft accurate internal documents and correspondence to Alberta’s energy sector.
• Analytical skills to assess options and implications, and demonstrate sound judgment and creative approaches to problem solving and decision-making.
• Ability to interpret and apply appropriate legislation to routine and complex situations.
• Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills to communicate with industry, Land Agents, Energy Legal Services, other Divisions, Ministries and the Alberta Energy Regulator.
• Technical skills to decipher information on maps, reports, Alberta’s geological table of formations and various associated notations.
• Excellent organizational skills, delivering business efficiently within the appropriate deadlines.
• Self-starter with demonstrated excellence in attention to detail and accuracy, including building cohesive relationships.
• Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office 365, Excel and SharePoint.
• Proven highly integrity to maintain confidential information and to manage financial transactions.
• Understanding trend analysis, priority setting and other work changes, various reporting documents, and performing calculations.
