Pay:  $38,480.00 per annum or $37/hr
Location:  Yellowknife, NT
Reports to:  Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director, the Volunteer Program Coordinator will manage the operation of a child and youth mentorship program, by providing guidance and training to volunteer youth mentors. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will always work cooperatively and effectively with all FFC-NWTHome Base Yellowknife () staff and volunteers, and will take initiative to implement current programming, and create new programming that meets the unique needs of the program mentees. The Volunteer Program Coordinator must ensure volunteers are engaged, supported and acknowledged.

Child and Youth Mentorship Program: This program is designed to meet the needs of children and youth in Yellowknife between the ages of 5 and 25. Volunteer mentors who sign up for the program will receive basic training, and will be matched up with child or youth mentee with similar interests. They will be expected to dedicate at least 1 hour / week to spend with their mentor, for a minimum of 8 months, however longer term commitment is encouraged. The mentee and mentor can do fun and new things in the community together, such as participating in arts, music, culture, life skills, and physical education activities. It is important for youth to have supportive adults in their life, and having a mentor can make a huge positive impact in the life of a child or youth.

Responsibilities

DUTIES

Volunteer mentor supervision:

Coordinate training for volunteers to ensure they have the capacity to best support the children and youth they mentor Provide ongoing feedback and support to all volunteers to ensure their success Follow up with volunteers to ensure they are enjoying their role, maintaining boundaries with their mentee, and supporting their mentee as best as possible Work collaboratively with other staff to improve / expand the program Communicate with parents, caregivers, community partners, and other external organizations / individuals Follow current guidelines for the volunteer mentorship program, and implement new ideas that improve the program Provide leadership and direction to volunteers in the areas of team building, morale, mental and spiritual health Meet and become familiar with all children and youth in the program, and develop positive relationship with them

Child and Youth Mentee supervision:

Support parents, caregivers, social workers, teachers, etc. to connect and sign children and youth up for the program Provide information to people in the child or youth’s support network about the program. Explain to the child or youth what it means to be a mentee and to have a mentor

Administration:

Manage recruiting, volunteer performance reviews, and volunteer skill development. Manage public relations, with guidance from the ED, for the volunteer mentorship program with regard to media requests and promoting the programs and services Maintain organized notes and data about children, youth and volunteers currently involved in the program Work with ED to develop and maintain performance standard Network and partner with community groups, individuals, and businesses With support from the ED, oversee the budget for the program Participate in knowledge transfer across program teams within the organization Participate in weekly meetings with other coordinators at the FFCNWT to discuss ideas and problem solve as a team

Qualifications

High school diploma  Post Secondary Education: Post secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field  Experience: Relevant training / education for working with children and youth or a support service setting  1+ years experience working with children and youth  1+ years experience developing and implementing programs for children or youth  1 + years in a supervisory position  Communication Skills: Professional level verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels. Experience working with children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, and other physical and behavioural abilities Good verbal communications skills, especially in conflict resolution, human resource management (mediation and related training an asset) Ability to coordinate and supervise people, and maintain a safe volunteer atmosphere under various pressures Highly organized, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision Organizational Skills: A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with a keen attention to detail. Ability to organize a daily workload by priorities. Must be able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment Excellent project management and analysis skills Ability to multitask, create own schedule, problem solve, and manage time Technology Proficiency: In-depth proficiency of Google Suite and Canva Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Technical Skills: First Aid/CPR Certification an asset Class 4 or 5 license is an asset
