Position Summary

The Future Harvest Partnership is a multi-year collaboration between Wilfrid Laurier University, the Territorial Agrifood Association (TAA) and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI). Supported by an interdisciplinary team of leading academics from across North America, and informed by Indigenous Governments and traditional knowledge, the Partnership engages with food producers and local communities of the Northwest Territories to co-create research and generate useful insights for innovation and policy that can inform the development of a climate-resilient local food system.

Building a strong network and broad support for locally produced foods in the NWT is central to the project. In addition to research activities, the Research Associate is part of the core project team. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), their tasks will include liaising with project partners, creating content for new and existing communication tools and channels, and engaging new partners and the broader public in project outcomes and deliverables. This full-time position will be vital to disseminating research in the NWT and across Canada, as well as supporting project partners in increasing the profile of local food systems in the region. They will be based out of Yellowknife, NWT.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities

Develop and manage a public-facing project website; Synthesize research findings, working together with researchers and stakeholders to tailor and maximize research use for positive societal impacts; Liaise with the Research Team to coordinate the publishing of open-access papers, reports, discussion papers and policy briefs; Identify opportunities to support research, strengthen collaborations, and promote co-created research outputs using a variety of communication tools (e.g., graphic design and infographics, data visualization, digital storytelling, plain language research summaries, thematic knowledge exchange events, social media); Develop communications resources for project partners; Communicate regularly with the Communications Strategist in the Laurier Office of Research Services, as well as the core partners (TAA and GNWT-ITI) to deliver reports and engaging content about ongoing research and key findings with images for press and social media dispatches; Coordinate media interviews for the PI, Co-Investigators, project partners and collaborators; Plan and execute NWT-based community events and workshops; Disseminate materials and resources on behalf of the Research Team and project partners; Demonstrate an increase in community engagement in research and knowledge-based collaboration, which will increase the impact of co-created research outputs on the development of public policy and professional practice; Create digital narratives, including podcasts, op-eds, and accessible project summaries for a public audience; and Other research activities, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the PI.

Hours of Work: The normal hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours will be required from time to time, including evening and/or weekend work when there are special events. When possible, the manager will adjust the work schedule so that no more than 35 hours are worked in a week.
