As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Tesla Toronto Automation, you will design cutting-edge machinery for high-speed continuous motion manufacturing equipment. Strong engineering/physics fundamentals and hands-on problem-solving skills are required. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring conceptual designs to life and drive improvement of equipment effectiveness, manufacturing tolerance, stability, automation, and intelligence. Proficiency in designing mechanical equipment, fixtures, layouts, and tooling in 2D and 3D CAD is essential. Analytical and statistical analysis skills are necessary to solve design problems. Experience in DOE, conducting experiments, prototype building, and hands-on experience are valuable. You will work with cross-functional teams to contribute to engineering efforts for conceptualization and design of next-generation manufacturing equipment. Your expertise will help drive improvement of equipment effectiveness, manufacturing tolerance, stability, automation, and intelligence. You will also contribute to equipment development to realize new/innovative/improved manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full-scale production. Prepare 3D CAD models, detailed drawings with GD&T for manufacturing and assembly, mechanical BOMs, safety, and maintenance documentation. You will work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve design issues and implement enhancements to optimize machine performance. We are looking for a motivated individual with strong engineering/physics fundamentals and hands-on problem-solving skills. * Contribute to engineering efforts for conceptualization and design of next-generation manufacturing equipment
* Contribute to equipment development to realize new/innovative/improved manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full-scale production
* Prepare 3D CAD models, detailed drawings with GD&T for manufacturing and assembly, mechanical BOMs, safety, and maintenance documentation
* Troubleshoot and resolve design issues and implement enhancements to optimize machine performance
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring conceptual designs to life and drive improvement of equipment effectiveness, manufacturing tolerance, stability, automation, and intelligence
* **Requirements:**
* 5+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer/designer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
* Prior experience in high-volume manufacturing or a relevant engineering field is valuable
* Proficiency in designing mechanical equipment, fixtures, layouts, and tooling in 2D and 3D CAD (SolidWorks & AutoCAD preferred)
* Proficiency in creating detailed drawings from solid models for various fabrication and assembly techniques (CNC/manual machining, welding, sheet metal forming, 3D printing, press fit, fasteners)
* Exposure and knowledge of a wide variety of test and automation systems & tools, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition, and I/O devices
* Analytical and statistical analysis skills to solve design problems
* Knowledge of GD&T, basic computational design, and FEA is an asset
* Experience in DOE, conducting experiments, prototype building, and hands-on experience are valuable
* Experience of new equipment installations and new product startups
* Experience writing production documentation: SOPs, checklists, flow diagrams
