Vice President, National Strategy & Public Affairs (Ottawa)

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to fill a Vice President (VP) role to cover a parental leave. We are looking for a dynamic individual to ensure continuity and drive key strategic initiatives during this period.

In this role, you would be joining a team that specializes in strategic federal government relations, communications planning, issues management, digital campaigns, government advocacy, public relations and media training.

The ideal candidate will have comparable leadership experience in a government, public affairs, or political role. This position is located in Ottawa and is a hybrid in-office/WFH role.

  • Leading and managing a driven, dynamic and fast-paced team.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team to set and execute strategic goals and plans.
  • Bringing a thorough understanding of government, politics and the process that drives decision making.
  • Being able to work on multiple issues simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cultivating key contacts in relevant government ministries, with elected officials and their staff, and with external stakeholder organizations.
  • Business development, relationship building and presenting.
  • Designing and implementing strategic government relations plans.
  • Fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Ensuring effective communication and coordination across work streams.
  • Collaborating on budget planning and financial performance.

What you bring

  • Agency experience in public affairs or relevant background in government or political office. Time working in the public service is an asset.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and growing teams.
  • Strong strategic planning and execution skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and excellent command of written and verbal communications (French is an asset)
