General Labourer - Vancouver, BC
Alliance Grain Terminal is looking for a motivated General Labourer to join our team for our export terminal in the Port of Vancouver. The successful candidate will be trained in various positions including operating a rail locomotive as well as operating computer-controlled equipment to facilitate the unloading of grain from rail cars and the loading of grain to vessels and trucks. The position is accountable to the Operations Supervisor(s). A strong work ethic and attention to detail are a must. The terminal operates on a continuous 24-hour basis with morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts. The general schedule block rotation for the terminal is 6 days on, 3 days off.
Key responsibilities:Coordinating General Labourer duties with Operations Supervisor(s) through effective communication.Operate all equipment in a safe efficient way according to company policies and procedures.Accountable for the safe operation of equipment by ensuring safe work practices and standards are adhered to.Report and follow-up any maintenance requirements to the appropriate departments.Load grain trucks.Extensive clean up duties, including shoveling and sweeping, to keep the terminal tidy and free of fire and other safety hazards while working within the Employee Health & Safety guidelines. Follow ISO standards and procedures.Other related duties as assigned.Knowledge and Skills:Strong work ethic and self-motivated.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.Proven ability to adhere to and maintain workplace health and safety initiatives.Basic understanding of the Canadian Grain Industry would be considered an asset.Education and Qualifications:High school diploma/GED required.Ability to plan, organize, and communicate (both written and oral), with team members and management.Must have demonstrated initiative, leadership, and diplomacy and the ability to contribute to the efficient operation of the terminal operation.Valid first aid ticket (Level 2 or higher) is considered an asset but not required.Compensation:AGT offers competitive wages starting at $42.80 per hourComprehensive Health and Benefits PackagePension Plan.Alliance Grain Terminal Ltd. (AGT) is a Canadian owned export grain terminal located on the south shore of the Burrard Inlet in the scenic Port of Vancouver. The facility has an annual capacity of 4.8 million metric tonnes and provides terminal services for the movement of Canadian agricultural products from rail to vessel.
