Labourer I

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Labourer I to join our team at the City of White Rock. As a Labourer I, you will play a vital role in maintaining the city's infrastructure, including roads, pavement, and water and sewer systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform a variety of labour tasks involving considerable physical effort in all types of weather conditions.
• Construction and maintenance of roads, pavement, and asphalt installation.
• Water, sanitary and storm sewer maintenance, pipe installation and repair.
• Sign installation, performing cement work and concrete installation, including brick paver installation.
• Operation of a variety of small equipment, hand tools, and performing routine equipment maintenance.
• Performing maintenance inspections and truck driving.

Qualifications:

• Completion of Grade 12 supplemented with job-related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Considerable experience or training and knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions applicable to the work.
• Class 5 Driver's license with Air Endorsement and proof of a safe and responsible driving record.
• Class 3 Driver's License or higher with Air Endorsement is an asset.
• Any additional Public Works related training is considered an asset.

Requirements:

• Ability to operate public works maintenance equipment including hand and power tools.
• Ability to shovel, rake, and compact hot mix asphalt.
• Ability to repair potholes with cold mix.
• Ability to do final paving from large to small projects and knowledge in finishing cement, laying brick and cement block grouting and concrete making.
• Ability to effectively communicate and demonstrate excellent listening skills.
• Ability to deal tactfully with the public in a courteous, professional and effective manner.
• Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety first attitude.
