About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Fleet Services Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of various programs, policies, and standards that support safe vehicle fitness and operations on the public highway system of the Province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify vehicle and equipment safety issues and develop recommendations for action based on industry standards and practices.
  • Oversee the Capital Fleet Program and ensure that Department equipment such as snow plows, loaders, and graders are built to high quality standards.
  • Address the use of after-market and add-on vehicle equipment, and of retrofitted vehicles; respond to inquiries and complaints from the industry and the public.
  • Participate in industry and governmental committees regarding vehicle and equipment safety standards.
  • Manage budgets and timelines to ensure Department objectives are achieved.
Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, along with a minimum of six (6) years of related experience in designing and detailing of mechanical projects. You must be actively registered as a Full Member (P. Eng) with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS). A valid driver's license in good standing and ability to travel throughout the province are also required.
