Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at School District #45 (West Vancouver). The successful candidate will provide individualized support to students with special needs, working closely with teachers and other support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students with special needs in the classroom and learning support room, implementing adaptations and strategies outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Provide personal assistance and care, including wheelchair transfers and implementing behavior safety plans, as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, and students with exceptional needs.
  • Operate various types of special equipment and assist with the movement and positioning of students, as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the District Administrator/Designate and other support staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality educational programs.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 graduation and post-secondary training in Special Education or a related field.
  • Recent experience and training supporting ABA programs, with a focus on working with students with diverse physical, social, and cognitive needs.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, and students with exceptional needs.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's license and flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and fast-paced educational environment, requiring flexibility and adaptability. The position may involve working with students who have challenging behaviors, and the ability to maintain a constant state of vigilance to ensure personal safety is essential.
