Maintenance Technician, Red Seal Journeyperson Millwright/pipefitter

About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Mechanical Technician, Pipefitter/Millwright or Millwright Apprentice at Christina Lake.

Reporting to the Mechanical Lead in Christina Lake, the Maintenance Technician, Pipefitter / Millwright apprentice will be responsible for providing maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair to the assets in a designated work area that includes pumps, piping, valves, PSVs, compressors, vessels, fans, gearboxes, mechanical seals, and packings. This is a hands-on role that will be required to work in conjunction with and supervise our service provider workforce.

Work Environment:

• This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 12 hours per day, 8 days on, 6 days off. Tuesday to Tuesday, rotating days, and nights.
• Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities.
• Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations.
• Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB

What you'll do:

• Provide expertise in the maintenance of all SAGD processing facilities and field locations
• Perform and/or lead the performance of work required to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment
• Support facility engineering department on approved MOC (management of change) scopes of work
• Identify and assess opportunities to improve safety, reliability, and maintenance costs
• Lead compliance to industry and Cenovus's requirements
• Conduct work in a manner prescribed by Cenovus's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and Safe Work Practices such as hazard identification, and emergency response
• Ensure effective communication with operations, maintenance, and management staff
• Maintain proper documentation of calibration and repair records
• Provide documentation in accordance with ABSA and PEIMS requirements
• Maintain superior housekeeping standards throughout the plant and associated areas.
• Responsible for corrective/preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on pumps, compressors, fans, motors, and gearboxes, valves, vessels, etc.
• Perform oil sample collections and prepare/maintain detailed documentation.
• Ensure ongoing performance improvement including job progression, site-specific training, process training.
• Provide relief supervision as required.
• Be actively involved in finding cost savings, improvements, and efficiencies in processes.

Who you are:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• A Red Seal Journeyperson Pipefitting trade ticket is required or a Millwright apprentice, registered with the Alberta Apprenticeship Board
• A minimum of 5 years' proven ability as a Journeyperson Pipefitter in the Oil & Gas industry
• Candidates who hold multiple trade designations (Pipefitter/Millwright) or have proven their experience in a multi-skilled environment are highly preferred
• Excellent problem solving and planning skills to provide technical input to optimize work plans
• Proficient in standard software including Microsoft Office Suite, OneNote and SAP is preferred.
• Experience operating equipment - forklift, carry deck crane, zoom boom.
• Proven Shutdown leadership experience is preferred.
• As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments
• For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate
