Zurich Canada is currently in need of a Senior Underwriter, Middle Market for the Eastern region.
Reporting to the VP, Middle Market, Eastern Canada, the role involves fostering strong broker relationships to deliver exceptional customer service and effective commercial insurance solutions. By establishing solid broker connections, you will underwrite new and renewal business strategically, engaging actively in the market to bolster the Zurich Canada brand. You will shape your account portfolio within the wider Middle Market strategy, leveraging The Zurich Way of Underwriting, operating within your authorized limits to ensure both accountability and superior service to clients.

What you will do
- Advocate Middle Market value proposition to enhance customer experiences and provide tailored insurance solutions
- Cultivate and strengthen broker networks focusing on target industries
- Conduct purposeful broker calls to promote products and services effectively
- Identify business opportunities through local relationships, pursuing new accounts and renewals to drive Middle Market portfolio growth and profitability
- Utilize a structured approach to assess exposure, risks, and pricing:
- Assess accounts aligning with business strategy and organization's risk appetite
- Analyze exposure and identify coverage opportunities within risk and compliance frameworks
- Utilize rating tools to provide customer-centric solutions
- Utilize risk insights for informed decision-making
- Adhere to underwriting guidelines, compliance standards, and insurance regulations within authorized limits
- Implement best practices for continuous enhancement of underwriting processes
- Upsell additional coverages like Z-Guard for comprehensive solutions
- Cross-sell other lines of business for integrated solutions
- Comprehend customer needs and market dynamics to develop Middle Market product offerings
- Manage portfolio considering performance metrics, data insights for diversified growth
- Collaborate with Underwriting Services team for proactive broker engagement and top-notch customer service
- Mentor less experienced underwriters and contribute to training programs as needed
- Enhance individual skill set and product knowledge to serve as a trusted advisor to brokers and customers
Job Accountabilities - What you bring to the table
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area
OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years experience in Claims
AND
- Proficiency in lines of business and regulatory guidelines
- Familiarity with insurance industry, underwriting principles, pricing, and guidelines
- Ability to work under time constraints for quoting
- Team-oriented work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years experience in commercial P&C underwriting
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and French language
- Proficiency in English for effective communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec
