The Specialist is a key member of SaskPower's management team, responsible for providing subject matter expertise and administration of a specialized function.

Job Summary:

The Specialist will act as a central point of contact in the management and administration of strategic, environmental and operational functions, providing expert advice and direction that aligns with departmental and corporate goals and objectives.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop and implement processes, policies and procedures to support the development of strategies and environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in a specialized function, developing and implementing policies, coaching and assisting management staff, and providing advice on environment and sustainability matters.
  • Identify new business solutions and operational efficiencies, and provide recommendations that impact SaskPower's business operations and strategies.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional environment and sustainability projects to provide functional expertise for corporate and departmental strategic planning initiatives.
  • Maintain environmental data systems, track and report on environmental performance, and represent the department as required.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices, and adapt them to SaskPower's operational environment.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project teams and/or assigned staff as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or other related field, and/or relevant professional designation(s) and/or certification(s).
  • Five (5) years of related experience in environmental management.
  • Strong team player with ability to build and maintain strategic relationships.
  • Results-oriented thinker with ability to manage and provide advice on complex and confidential issues.
  • Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work and manage in a changing environment.
  • Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's competencies.
  • Continuing record of professional development.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
