High Level is a town in northern Alberta, Canada. It is located at the intersection of the MacKenzie Highway (Highway 35) and Highway 58, approximately 733km (455 miles) north of Edmonton and 725km (450 miles) south of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

With an abundance of unspoiled nature surrounding High Level there are many opportunities for sightseeing. The MacKenzie region has numerous kinds of wildlife including bison, bear, deer, wolves, wolverines, coyotes, fox, and many different species of birds.
You will find a wide array of health services at the local hospital, the Northwest Health Centre. There you will find an exceptional group of dedicated health professionals which are responsible for delivering acute care, long-term care and community care. Services provided range from general services to high-tech specialist services, including obstetrics, endoscopy, laboratory services, indigenous health liaison services, nutrition counselling, occupational therapy, ultrasound and much more. In addition to the hospital, seniors can access a wide range of services and support programs, through the local Continuing Care Centre.

There are two medical clinics within the community, including an outreach medical clinic in the nearby community of Rainbow Lake. The community also hosts dental clinics, physiotherapy, optometrists, massage therapists, psychologists.
Fort Vermilion School Division provides students it serves with quality education in safe, caring environments and in accordance with provincial requirements and local community expectations.
High Level offers an array of nearby campgrounds, a beautiful aquatic centre, informative museum and visitor centre, scenic lakes, sports complex, vast park grounds, ice rinks, and more. There's something for everyone in High Level.
Job Description
Alberta Health Services - North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine with Anesthesia Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of High Level. This position will provide services in Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Anesthesia, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, and Long-Term Care.
Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of High Level.
- Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community.
- Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.
- Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Emergency Department and Anesthesia call schedules, as required.
- Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules, and AHS policies.
- Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine.
- Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
- Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.
Qualifications- Current Alberta Practice Permit or valid CPSA Letter of Eligibility to practice in the advertised position (proof to be included with application).
- Recent hands-on experience (within the past 2 years) in all areas of practice noted within the Description, as the sole provider.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
- College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
- College of Family Physicians of Canada - Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM).
- Sole provider of Anesthesia services (Diploma required, with a minimum of six months pre & post diploma experience).
- Geriatrics.
- Rural Emergency Room Experience.
