Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure, store, prepare, compound, package, maintain, issue and distribute drugs, chemicals and supplies in accordance with policy, directives and procedures of the Regional Pharmacy Program.
  • Review prescriptions for compliance with federal and provincial law.
  • Perform a final check on prepared drugs before dispensing.
  • Dispense drugs under the approval of a pharmacist.
  • Identify drug-related problems that require referral to a pharmacist.
  • Provide instructions to patients on the operation of medical devices.
  • Perform tasks at external dispensing sites.
  • Precept and train Pharmacy Technicians-in-training, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician students, Pharmacy Assistants and pharmacy interns.
  • Maintain current competencies that underlie the main duties of a Pharmacy Technician.

Requirements:

  • One year experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate or the program prescribed by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba for candidates who successfully complete a non-CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Certificate.
  • Listed as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba is required.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Regional Pharmacy Program Pharmacy Technician competency assessments.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology essential.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills essential.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • Demonstrated competency in pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility and independence in planning work to meet demanding schedules.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with other individuals.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing, lifting and repetitive motion.
  • Extensive use of eyesight and concentration for precision work.
  • Extensive use of computers.
  • Exposure to medications, chemicals and solvents.
  • May be required to travel to other sites.

Additional Requirements:

  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check is required.
  • An employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT.
