Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Zoning Examiner to join our team at the City of Mississauga. As a key member of our Planning and Building Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with zoning by-laws and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough reviews of architectural plans and zoning applications to ensure compliance with all applicable zoning by-laws and regulations.
  • Prepare detailed zoning analysis reports and provide recommendations for corrective action where necessary.
  • Provide technical guidance and education to internal and external clients on zoning-related issues.
  • Collaborate with other departments and government agencies to ensure consistency and accuracy in zoning interpretations.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of zoning by-laws, regulations, and policies to provide expert advice and support.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including the public, internal staff, and external agencies, to provide clear and concise information on zoning-related matters.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in urban planning, architectural technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in development approvals, zoning compliance, or a related field in a municipal environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex zoning regulations and by-laws.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in e-plans or other computer-assisted drafting (CAD) software.

This is a temporary position with two contracts: one approximately 1 year and one approximately 6 months. The hourly rate is $76, and the work location is the Civic Centre.
