Job Summary

The City of Mississauga is seeking a highly skilled Zoning Examiner to join our Planning and Building Department. As a Zoning Examiner, you will play a critical role in ensuring that development projects comply with the City's zoning by-laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Zoning Analysis: Review architectural plans and materials submitted with building permits, zoning certificates of occupancy, and other development applications to ensure compliance with zoning by-laws.
  • Prepare Zoning Reports: Prepare detailed reports on zoning analysis, indicating corrective actions required to ensure compliance.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Offer technical guidance and education to internal and external clients on zoning-related issues.
  • Represent the Section: Represent the Planning and Building Department at various committees and meetings.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that development projects are processed efficiently and effectively.
Requirements
  • Post-Secondary Education: A post-secondary degree or diploma in urban planning, architectural technology, science of building design, civil engineering technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience directly related to development approvals in a municipal environment.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of e-plans or other computer-assisted drafting (CAD) software.
  • Communication Skills: Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with the public.
