We are seeking a dynamic Second Cook to join our Halifax team at Northwood, responsible for preparing meals and maintaining a high level of personal hygiene and sanitation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare residents' meals according to established standards, including cook/chill/freeze menu concept, special instructions, recipes, volumes, temperature, food safety, and presentation.
  • Perform stock control, prepared food packaging, and rotation using HACCP principles.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate storage and preparation of all food supplies using HACCP principles.
  • Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and sanitation in the work area.
  • Respond to requests from various areas of the facility regarding food service/production via electronic communication.
  • Operate, clean, and sanitize equipment and work area.
  • Prepare foods for ancillary meal services, including Assisted Living, Enriched Meal Program, Adult Day Care, and special occasions.
  • Assist with and perform other related duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Diploma of Culinary Arts or Equivalent.
  • Basic Food Safety Certification.
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience.
  • Food service experience required.
  • Recipe development experience required.
  • Advanced Food Safety Certification.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and maintain regular attendance.

Hours of Work: 32 hours bi-weekly (8 hour shifts) - Days/Evenings
