Nutritionist - Public Health Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Nutritionist to join our Healthy Communities Team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with community partners to address local population health needs and take action to improve population health and reduce health inequities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading healthy eating and food security initiatives, as well as participating in health promotion work as needed. You will work with community partners across multiple levels to take action and advance policy and system change to create supportive social, economic, and physical environments that protect and promote health.
You will work directly with key partners, such as school communities, child care facilities, and municipalities, to provide tangible nutrition support to implement provincial nutrition policies and standards. Using evidence-informed strategies, you will seek and advocate for policy and system change, with a focus on creating supportive food environments through community engagement, coalition building, and partnership development.
You will continually assess understanding of the community's health through ongoing and informal means, gathering local intelligence, seeking out experiences, and stories. You will use persuasive communication techniques and strong facilitation skills to bring others along in the work to create system/culture change. Evidence will be translated on an ongoing basis throughout the planning cycle to build understanding and motivate and inspire action among colleagues and with community partners.
About YouWe are looking for a candidate with a strong background in community-based public health and nutrition. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition, plus 5 years of community-based public health experience, or a Master's degree in Community Nutrition/Public Health/Health Promotion, plus 2 years of community-based public health experience.
The successful candidate will be licensed with and a member in good standing of a provincial regulatory body, such as the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists, and hold a PDt (Professional Dietitian) or RD (Registered Dietitian) designation. They will also have First Aid/CPR Certification and experience in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition and food security-related programs, policies, services, and initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge translation and communication skills, including written and verbal, and success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support healthy communities work.
They will also have an understanding of a population-based approach, demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills, and the ability to deal with competing priorities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated advocacy skills, the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting with a strong focus on citizen/community, and demonstrated accountability and responsibility.
They will also have demonstrated judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, leadership abilities, and proficiency in a variety of computer software programs and technologies. Travel will be required, so a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are necessary. Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French being preferred.
HoursThe successful candidate will work on a temporary full-time basis, with a 70-hour bi-weekly schedule. The starting date is ASAP, with an approximate 12-month term.
Compensation and IncentivesThe hourly rate for this position is $36.27-$45.63. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
