Navigator Program Project Manager [Remote, Canada]

About the project: First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle Class Action

On October 24, 2023, the Federal Court approved the Settlement Agreement for the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle Class Action. The Settlement Agreement includes $23.34 billion in compensation for impacted First Nations individuals and some of their family members.

The Settlement applies to First Nations children who were removed from their homes by, or involving, child welfare agencies operating in First Nations communities and the Yukon and placed in out-of-home care between April 1, 1991, and March 31, 2022, and to First Nations children who experienced a delay, denial or gap in essential services between April 1, 1991, and November 2, 2017.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Claims Support Project Lead and Co-Lead with creating and managing tools and timelines for the project.
  • Create work plans, gantt charts, timelines, and task the rest of the project team.
  • Monitor project progress, ensuring deliverables align with the settlement's overall objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication and asses risks with the Claims Program's Project Lead and Co-Lead.

We're looking for someone with:

  • 7+ years of experience in project management.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, history, and the impacts of (intergenerational) trauma.
  • In-depth understanding of colonial policies, discriminatory laws and the impacts of colonization on Indigenous peoples and communities.
  • Have an intermediate understanding of technology and various online platforms.
  • Understanding the governance structure of Indigenous communities.
  • Preferred or in-depth experience and understanding in Indigenous history, peoples and culture.
  • Ability to travel across Canada.
  • Pursuant to Section 16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act, preference will be given to First Nations candidates.
