Since the Gold Rush of 1898, mining has featured prominently in building and defining the Yukon's economy, shaping its communities, and contributing to its economic development. In the modern day context, Yukon Government controls and administers its natural resources, including its minerals. The Mineral Resources branch is responsible for administration of the Quartz Mining Act, Placer Mining Act and regulations through the Mining Recorder offices located in Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Dawson, and Mayo.

Working as a member of the Mining Recorder's team, the Mining Lands Officer is responsible for coordinating the mining land use application process; providing information, advice and assistance for the acquisition and security of mineral title to the mining community; and evaluating, processing and making recommendations for the acceptance or rejection of applications.

Essential Qualifications

• Post-secondary coursework in natural resource management, mineral exploration, environmental science, business or office administration or a related field;


• Working with legislation/regulatory documents, preferably in a government setting;


• Experience working in a client service setting, providing information to and working collaboratively with the general public and diverse client groups;


• Experience working with the Yukon mining regulatory and assessment processes in the context of land claims (i.e. Umbrella Final Agreement Final Agreements and Yukon First Nation Final Agreements) would be an asset;


• Experience working with Indigenous groups to share and gather information on First Nation's interests, values and concerns would be an asset.

Candidates who have a combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.
