This is a full-time TERM position that ends on a specific date. Temporary assignments may be considered. An established eligibility list may be used for other Mining Lands Officer positions throughout the territory.

The Yukon's economy has been shaped by mining since the Gold Rush era. Today, Yukon Government controls and administers its natural resources, including minerals. The Mineral Resources branch is responsible for administering the Quartz Mining Act, Placer Mining Act, and regulations through the Mining Recorder offices located in Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Dawson, and Mayo.

As a member of the Mining Recorder's team, the Mining Lands Officer is responsible for coordinating the mining land use application process; providing information, advice, and assistance for the acquisition and security of mineral title to the mining community; and evaluating, processing, and making recommendations for the acceptance or rejection of applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the mining land use application process
  • Provide information, advice, and assistance for mineral title acquisition
  • Evaluate, process, and make recommendations for application acceptance or rejection

Essential Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary coursework in natural resource management, mineral exploration, environmental science, business, or office administration
  • Experience working with legislation and regulatory documents, preferably in a government setting
  • Experience working in a client service setting, providing information to and working collaboratively with the general public and diverse client groups

Candidates with a combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the essential qualifications will be equally considered.
