A Building Inspector II is responsible for ensuring new and existing buildings meet community and building code standards, conducting on-site inspections, and enforcing legislation and municipal by-laws.

**Job Description**

* Conduct on-site inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with community and building code standards
* Interpret and enforce legislation and municipal by-laws related to building construction and safety
* Issue verbal and written reports and orders to address code deficiencies and ensure public safety
* Inspect unsafe buildings and structures, coordinating resources to render them temporarily safe
* Respond to customer inquiries and provide accurate advice and service
* Initiate legal proceedings and attend court as a witness to protect public safety and enforce legislation

**Requirements**

* College diploma in Architecture, Civil Engineering or equivalent at technologist level
* Eligible for membership in AATO or OACETT with 5 to 7 years related building construction, plumbing & HVAC experience
* Successful completion of provincially mandated exam program administered by Ministry of Municipal Affairs relating to Building Code Act & the OBC
* Excellent working knowledge of OBC, ability to read/interpret plans/specifications, and commitment to providing quality customer-focused service
* Excellent communication and computer skills, ability to work on own initiative
* Certified Building Code Official designation
* Valid Ontario Class G Driver's license & use of personal vehicle for business purposes required
