Peace Arch Hospital is a 171 bed hospital located in White Rock, B.C, primarily serving its local communities of South Surrey and White Rock. The hospital offers general medicine, surgery, maternity, inpatient, outpatient care and 24/7 Emergency services with over 51,000 visits annually. With its sandy beaches, red brick promenade, waterfront eateries, dramatic sunsets, and the warmest ocean water on the Canadian west coast, White Rock is known as the jewel of British Columbia. A quiet, growing, seaside community tucked between Surrey and Washington State, White Rock is a scenic community offering a variety of leisure activities from windsurfing to golfing to oceanfront promenade walks. Responsibilities: • Assess patient/resident/family's actual and potential strengths and limitations including physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual needs. • Provide a supportive environment for patient/resident/family. Promote patient/resident/family involvement in health care decisions; provide information and opportunity to discuss concerns; respect personal choices. • Contribute to the development and ongoing changes to the individualized plan of care, including attending and providing input into multidisciplinary care planning meetings and family conferences. • Provide nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology and FHA standards and evaluates outcomes. Records observations and reports problems and/or changes to designated staff. • Perform admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients/residents according to agency operating policies and procedures. • Document and update all relevant care and procedure information to ensure patient/resident safety and comfort. • Operate and maintain effective functioning equipment related to patient/resident care such as bathtubs, scales and mechanical lifts. • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients/residents and staff. • Assist in the orientation of new staff, students and other members of the Health Care Team. • Participate in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings and committees. • Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: • Graduate of a recognized practical nursing program or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. • Ability to deal with others effectively. • Ability to organize work and implement a plan of care. • Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice as currently required by the BCCNM, including administering medications. • Ability to operate related equipment. • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
