**Job Summary:** Coordinator, Disaster Response - Disaster Risk Reduction Resilience (DR3) role at BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) involves coordinating emergency management and business continuity plans, providing consultative advice, and leading education programs for healthcare staff.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) is a provincial emergency medical care and patient transfer services provider, part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). BCEHS brings compassionate, equitable, and professional emergency care to people in communities across British Columbia.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Coordinates the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of emergency management and business continuity plans for assigned geographic or program portfolios.
- Works in collaboration with health authority programs to determine emergency management and business continuity strategies.
- Develops and maintains emergency management manuals and documentation.
- Leads education programs for healthcare staff, physicians, volunteers, and contractors in business continuity and emergency management.
- Coordinates communication strategies, develops promotional materials, and works with stakeholders to develop integrated information and reporting systems.
- Provides leadership and guidance for facility or program committees, chairs or participates in committees, and leads multi-stakeholder/cross-sector projects.
- Supports BCEHS emergency response activities, acts in various roles, and leads debrief and after-action review processes.
- Promotes emergency preparedness within the health sector and the community.
- Represents BCEHS on internal and external committees with local authorities and other agencies on health emergency management issues.
- Conducts assessments of planning and emergency response to facilitate continuous improvement.
**Requirements:**
- A bachelor's degree in emergency management, a health-related area, the social sciences, geography, business administration, or a related field, and professional designation.
- Five years of recent related experience in a large institutional or campus environment, including two years of experience managing business continuity and/or emergency management programs.
- Knowledge of emergency management and business continuity issues in a healthcare setting, standards, systems, and response agencies.
- Interpersonal and negotiation skills, ability to present to diverse audiences, build and maintain effective working relationships, and plan, implement, coordinate, and direct programs and activities.
- Excellent computer, written, and verbal skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, organize and prioritize work, and function effectively in a dynamic environment.
**Indigenous Cultural Safety and Diversity:**
- Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people, significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies, and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous-specific racism, and anti-racism.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Site Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice.
- Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
