Job Opportunity: Director of Finance and IT

The District of Sparwood is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance and IT to join our team. As a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of our municipality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Leadership: Provide overall direction and guidance on all finance and information technology functions, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, financial forecasting, investing, revenue collections, property taxation, payroll, and expenditure control.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Develop and maintain long-term financial plans, reserve and debt management, and financial policies to support these goals.
  • Financial Management: Administer the District's funds according to the approved budget and monitor financial expenditures.
  • Risk Management: Identify and evaluate risks to the District, both internal and external, and design and implement an overall risk management process.
  • Asset Management: Develop, implement, oversee, and monitor the District's asset management plan.
  • Information Technology: Manage the efficient and effective operation of the IT functions of the District, including installations, use, and maintenance of hardware, software, and network services.
Requirements:
  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation
  • Minimum five (5) years' direct experience with finance administration; direct experience with municipal finance administration would be considered an asset
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a financial leadership or supervisory position
  • Expert experience in general financial management
  • Expert experience with budget preparation and variance reporting
  • Excellent knowledge of human resources activities, including an understanding of labour standards, compensation, administration policies, and benefits management
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Leadership and relationship building skills with the ability to lead a team in a unionized environment
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
  • Ability to resolve conflicts while minimizing major disruptions to workflows or interpersonal relations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to Council, other departments, and members of the public
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's licence

  • A competitive salary range of $100,000 to $137,000, dependent on education and experience
