About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Nutrition Services team as an Aide/Porter. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering meal carts, snacks, and bulk supplies to patient units, ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver meal carts, snacks, and bulk supplies to patient units in a timely and efficient manner
  • Disassemble soiled patient trays, removing food debris from dishes, separating cutlery, and processing soiled dishes through the dish machine
  • Stock clean dishes in appropriate areas, collect soiled dish racks and empty meal carts from the loading dock and patient units, and return to the kitchen
  • Wash and sanitize racks and meal carts, clean the ware washing area and dish machine, handle totes of compostable material and garbage
  • Perform cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required, and other duties consistent with the job classification
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalent education
  • Good manual dexterity and organizational skills
  • Good team player
  • 6 months practical and related experience
  • Food Service Worker Certificate preferred
  • Food Handlers Certificate preferred
  • Ability to read and understand short notes, brief forms, and memos
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 10 kg, loading and unloading food trucks, and pushing heavy food trucks during pick-up and delivery of meals
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner, produce high-quality work, and meet deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment, with the ability to multi-task
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN's Privacy Policy
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN, and/or departmental policies
  • Client service-oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds, and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Ability to work alternating weekends and statutory holidays, and at least 3-week days in a two-week period
  • Ability to work in warm/humid conditions
  • May be required to work at multiple areas and rotating shifts in emergency situations
