Early Childhood Educator
(Full-time, Monday- Friday, on site)

Since 1974, Moncton Headstart has been a registered Canadian charity dedicated to overcoming the obstacles that hinder disadvantaged children from thriving in school and achieving parity with their peers. Endorsed by Dr. Bruce Perry, MD, PhD, we are the sole full- service early child and family intervention center in Atlantic Canada.

Moncton Headstart delivers high-quality, evidence-based, trauma-informed early child and family intervention services to support vulnerable, at-risk children and their families. We focus on infants and children from birth to age 5, aiming to enhance their outcomes.

Purpose

Reporting to the Children's Program Supervisor, you will create a safe and nurturing classroom and outdoor environment, employing proven strategies and practices aligned with the HighScope curriculum (similar to the New Brunswick curriculum).

Your role includes providing consistent and appropriate supervision of children, ensuring a high- quality educational experience, and adhering to the New Brunswick Day Care Standards, Child Victims of Abuse guidelines, and Moncton Headstart's standards as outlined by the Minister of Education.

Duties

  • Implement the HighScope curriculum and work towards certification as a HighScope teacher through ongoing onsite training.
  • Mentor and/or coach parents during classroom visits and participation days.
  • Offer regular support and function as a resource for parents regarding their child's care and development.
  • Document daily classroom activities, incidents, and observations.
  • Communicate effectively with parents through initial home visits and subsequent classroom interactions.
  • Consult with Child Protection/Social Development personnel as needed.
  • Maintain regular cleanliness, care, and safety standards for the children.
  • Provide occasional bus supervision as required.
  • Clean and disinfect the classroom and set up/tear down learning environments.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and families as a team.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of children.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, diploma, or certificate in Early Childhood Education.
  • Knowledge of New Brunswick Learning Curriculums (Anglophone).
  • HighScope certification (provided at no cost, though prior certification is an asset).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Social Development Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Experience

  • At least two (2) years of experience in Early Childhood Education
  • Experience working with environmentally at-risk and/or developmentally delayed children from birth to five years of age is an asset.

  • Communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing, and speaking fluently.
  • Manage crisis situations efficiently and calmly.
  • Mentor and manage individuals from diverse backgrounds, with varying literacy levels and learning styles.
  • Use clear and straightforward language with the team, colleagues, families, and the community.
  • Adapt to changing situations with strong organizational and planning abilities.
