Workcar Operator Trainee

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Workcar Operator Trainee. As a Workcar Operator Trainee, you will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to become a Workcar Operator and be a part of the team that makes our system run.
Job Summary- Operate motorized equipment and non-revenue rail vehicles for the delivery of tools, materials, supplies, parts, and equipment to various TTC locations and work sites.
- Load and unload cargo, push/pull non-powered cars, grind rails, wash/clean walls and rails, spread ballast, pump/vacuum track drains, and perform other related duties.
- Perform daily service checks on vehicles, report servicing or repairs required to supervisors, and complete the appropriate forms.
- Ensure that rail cars are properly coupled/secured during push/pull operations and perform related duties as assigned.
- Operate non-specialized work cars, such as flat cars, locomotives, wall washing units, rail cleaning cars, rail grinding cars, pumper/vacuum cars, ballast cars, and steel-wheeled snow removal equipment.
- Deliver tools, materials, supplies, parts, and equipment to various TTC locations and work sites.
- Load and unload cargo, push/pull non-powered cars, and perform other related duties.
- Perform daily service checks on vehicles, report servicing or repairs required to supervisors, and complete the appropriate forms.
- Ensure that rail cars are properly coupled/secured during push/pull operations.
- Completion of Grade 12 education or its recognized equivalent.
- Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to speak clearly and exchange information and instructions with control centers and follow proper radio and telephone protocol.
- Ability to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain the trainee status.
- Valid class G province of Ontario driver's license.
- Pass a vision test and established pre-test set by the Training and Development Department.
- Will be required to be fitted with a respirator.
