Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is the busiest acute care center in the Fraser Health Authority (FHA) region in British Columbia. Approximately forty percent of the pediatric-aged population in British Columbia resides with the FHA catchment area. SMH provides a range of outpatient and inpatient pediatric health programs, including an outpatient pediatric diabetes clinic.
The SMH Pediatric Diabetes Clinic is currently staffed by three part-time pediatric endocrinologists (combined total of 0.5 FTE), who provide care to approximately 250 pediatric diabetes patients, ages 4-18 years, who are living with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and pre-diabetes. The clinic is multidisciplinary, and includes a full-time Dietitian, Pediatric Diabetes Nurse educators, and a part-time Social Worker. Many of the patients are using insulin pumps, and other diabetes-related technology.
The successful applicant must be eligible to obtain a specialist's license to practice medicine in British Columbia, as well as Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Pediatrics and Fellowship training in Endocrinology (or equivalents). The proposed position is primarily clinical, and involves coverage of one day a week of outpatient diabetes clinic. There is also an expectation to directly supervise and teach medical learners, including pediatric residents and pediatric endocrinology subspeciality residents/fellows, when they are doing rotations in the clinic. The candidate will also have the opportuning to collaborate in regional, and provincial level academic endeavors (i.e. research and/or quality improvement projects).
The successful candidate will also be expected to apply to the University of British Columbia (UBC), Department of Pediatrics, to become a clinical faculty member. UBC Clinical faculty rank will be commensurate upon your personal experience and qualifications.
Renumeration is MSP fee-for service billing, with an optional sessional payment for additional work done outside of direct fee-for-service billings.
