The Ontario Renal Network (ORN), a part of Ontario Health, is responsible for advising the Ontario government on the renal system.

The ORN manages the delivery of clinical services to patients with chronic kidney disease in Ontario. The ORN's Renal Clinical Programs team leads the planning and implementation of the ORN's provincial quality improvement initiatives.

The Senior Specialist, Renal Clinical Programs, Ontario Renal Network will be a critical member of the team.

The Senior Specialist is a senior level position within the Renal Clinical Programs team primarily responsible for leading and/or supporting the implementation of a suite of initiatives across renal clinical program areas.


The Senior Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting the Manager and/or Team Leader in delivering on Renal Clinical Program mandates within specific areas of expertise by executing key activities and developing the required deliverables.

As part of this role, the Senior Specialist develops the required processes, tools, and technology to implement key activities and deliver on program plans.


The Senior Specialist is focused on projects/program areas that are large and broad in scope, have more complex mandates/objectives, and/or are related to more than one focused area of expertise.


The work associated with the position impacts the success of the program based on the accomplishment of key responsibilities and activities within areas of expertise.

Program/Operational Support

Plan, lead, and execute several medium to large-scale projects/quality improvement initiatives.


Actively manage projects/initiatives, including identifying and effectively communicating with relevant stakeholders, managing project work plans, driving agendas, and providing input in a collaborative setting.

Perform in a leadership role in various program related projects, policies, activities and initiatives.


Define scope and deliverables of initiatives in coordination with the Manager and clinical and administrative stakeholders, with a focus on providing input on areas of expertise.

Identify issues and risks in a timely manner and escalating to the Manager, and proposing recommended mitigations as required.

Manage multiple projects concurrently within timelines.


Develop various products to execute on the program plan, support internal and external communication, reporting and decision-making, including but not limited to briefing notes, reports, executive summaries, status updates and presentations.

Develop and present material, including material of a sensitive nature, using excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Research, analyze and generate information and maintain a detailed knowledge of data to support quality improvement initiatives, strategic implementation and performance monitoring.


Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses that have an impact on key initiatives and/or multiple stakeholders, to support project and/or program goals, as required.

Participate in evaluation activities to support the identification of further areas for improvement in planning approaches and methodologies.

Defines and implements the required frameworks, methodologies and standards within area/s of expertise

Determines program/operational requirements and translates these into solutions that achieve objectives and/or address key issues; implements and monitors/tests the recommendations/solutions developed

Coordinates with the Manager in managing the various program/operational processes and ensure they comply with standards

Maintains documentation as required.

Mentors junior resources as required.

Stakeholder Engagement


Develop and foster effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to health care providers, administrators, patient and family advisors, project teams, and committees.

Lead working committees and/or consultation sessions with key stakeholders focused within renal clinical program areas.

Work closely with clinical leads, administrators and team members from across ORN in collaborative projects involving clinical change management.


Partner closely with internal/external stakeholders to deliver, communicate complex concepts, build consensus, and support change management to ensure executed initiatives and analyses meet defined requirements.

Facilitate knowledge transfer and exchange and proactively share knowledge across teams as appropriate.

Develop content expertise in renal clinical program areas of focus including data, indicators, guidance/best practice.

Support integration within OH departments on related work, and support other initiatives within the ORN as needed.

Perform cross-functional tasks and/or other duties within Renal Clinical Programs, as required.

Education and Experience

Required:

Undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline (clinical epidemiology, health sciences, health services research, health or business administration) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Master's degree is preferred.

Required:
Minimum three to five years of related experience. Experience in a health care environment is preferred.

Proven track record leading/supporting large-scale projects preferably in a health care environment.

Experience with project management related to quality improvement and evaluation, including planning and implementation; PMP is an asset.


Expertise and experience in data analysis, policy analysis, and business strategy, and the ability to translate information into a convincing written argument or business case.


Experience working with clinical experts, health care administrators and people with lived experience, including ability to facilitate meetings with stakeholders and consensus building.

Knowledge and Skills

A strong understanding of the Ontario health care landscape; understanding of kidney disease management in Ontario is an asset.

Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder relationship management skills with demonstrated experience engaging and building relationships and consensus amongst diverse stakeholders.


Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate key messages that resonate with different stakeholders and audiences, effectively facilitate a group of stakeholders, create and deliver effective presentations, and prepare briefing notes and reports.

Ability to define problems, find solutions and provide well-articulated recommendations to the Manager and other key decision makers.

Superior attention to detail, organization, and time management skills, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

Strong critical and analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; skilled in creating products (e.g. papers, reports, presentations, diagrams) for multiple audiences.

Ability to ensure completed work outputs meet key program objectives, and adhere to standards, protocols and guidelines
