About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Nutritionist to join our Healthy Communities Team at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with community partners to address local population health needs and take action to improve population health and reduce health inequities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading healthy eating and food security initiatives, as well as participating in health promotion work as needed. You will work with community partners across multiple levels to take action and advance policy and system change to create supportive social, economic, and physical environments that protect and promote health.

You will provide tangible nutrition support to implement provincial nutrition policies and standards, using evidence-informed strategies to seek and advocate for policy and system change. You will continually assess understanding of community health through ongoing and informal means, gathering local intelligence and seeking out experiences and stories.

You will use persuasive communication techniques and strong facilitation skills to bring others along in the work to create system/culture change. Evidence will be translated on an ongoing basis throughout the planning cycle to build understanding and motivate and inspire action among colleagues and with community partners.

About You
  • We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor degree in Human Nutrition plus 5 years community-based/Public Health experience, or a Master's degree in Community Nutrition/Public Health/Health Promotion plus 2 years community-based/Public Health experience.
  • You must be licensed with and a member in good standing of a provincial regulatory body, such as the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists, and hold a PDt (Professional Dietitian) or RD (Registered Dietitian) designation.
  • You should have First Aid/CPR Certification and experience in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition and food security related programs, policies, services, and initiatives.
  • You should have demonstrated knowledge translation and communication skills, including written and verbal, and demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support healthy communities work.
  • You should have an understanding of a population-based approach and demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • You should be able to deal with competing priorities and have demonstrated advocacy skills.
  • You should have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting with a strong focus on citizen/community.
  • You should have demonstrated accountability and responsibility, judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, and leadership abilities.
  • You should be proficient in a variety of computer software programs and technologies, and have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French being preferred.
Hours
  • This is a Temporary Full Time position, 100% FTE, 70 hours bi-weekly, starting as soon as possible and ending approximately 12 months later.
Compensation and Incentives

The hourly rate for this position is $36.27-$45.63. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
