Nutritional Services Manager

The Correctional Services Division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for incarcerated adults and youth. Within the Correctional Services' core business area, there are two programs: Community Corrections and correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.
About Our OpportunityThe Nutritional Services Manager will be a Registered Dietician, responsible for the coordination of the nutritional needs of incarcerated individuals. Accountable for procurement, nutritional support, and inventory management. Responsible for overseeing kitchen operations at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth and the Nova Scotia Youth Centre in Waterville. The incumbent will flex their time between the two facilities.
Primary Accountabilities- Ensuring a comprehensive menu plan that provides healthy eating options for incarcerated individuals, forensic patients, and staff.
- Accountable for the efficient fiscal operation of nutritional services including purchasing, budgeting, forecasting, and inventory control.
- Hiring and training staff, performance management, and addressing employee concerns.
- Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of nutrition services and equipment.
- Serving as a resource for advice on equipment, menus, hiring, and processes for other facilities.
- Managing staff schedules and absences.
Registered Dietician with experience in dietary/nutritional needs of diverse populations. Strong leadership, communication skills, and ability to manage challenging situations are required.
- Highly motivated with strong team-building skills.
- Ability to develop solutions to administrative problems.
- Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.
- Effective time management and ability to handle emergencies.
