Position Summary:

The Safety & Training Specialist is responsible for developing and managing workplace safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. In addition to leading and managing safety programs, the role is also involved in providing ongoing safety training and safety onboarding training as required.

Responsibilities & Expectations:
  • Develops, implements and evaluates safety programs, safety manuals, safety procedures and policies to ensure internal needs and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Conducts regular safety audits and inspections of work sites and locations.
  • Conducts regular risk assessments and Job Hazard Analysis' to determine highest risk and hazard tasks, and develops plans and procedures to address areas of concern.
  • Conducts in-person training on equipment, safety procedures and SOP's related to safety.
  • Works with the HR team and employee manager in scheduling third-party safety training.
  • Provides safety onboarding training for new hires or individuals who are promoted to new departments and functions.
  • Investigates and monitors safety incidents for trends, corrective actions, etc.
  • Provides safety statistics to senior leadership as required.
  • Stays current on trends, regulations, etc. to ensure Company training and procedures are compliant and mitigate any risks.
  • Prepares and submits any necessary reports to the appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Instills and promotes a culture of continuous improvement in regard to the Company's safety culture.
  • Works collaboratively with multiple departments, utilizing a customer service approach in ensuring their needs and requirements as it relates to safety, are met.
  • Leads the Company's OHS committees.
  • Responds to and investigates safety concerns as needed.
  • Leads all actions required in ensuring compliance with local safety regulations and requirements.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Possesses relevant post-secondary education.
  • Has a minimum of 3-5 years of workplace safety experience, with a preference for experience within manufacturing or food production environments.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills are required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Previous experience with in-person training is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills required.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple sites as required.
