About the Role

CN is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Assistant Track Supervisor. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the operations of an assigned territory, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods across our rail network.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering operations as outlined in CN's operating plan, ensuring compliance with safe work procedures, Transport Canada guidelines, and CN standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Supervise and lead activities of track gangs, track employees, and hi-rail operations, providing clear direction and goals while coaching and guiding employees through regular performance monitoring.
  • Apply collective agreement and company policies by conducting investigations, recommending corrective actions, and responding to grievances, ensuring a fair and respectful work environment.
  • Oversee budgets and workforce productivity within CN policies and the Five Guiding Principles, driving efficiency and effectiveness in our operations.
  • Ensure clear communication of track condition and daily production information to senior management, enabling informed decision-making and adjustments to our operations.
  • Conduct regulatory inspections and input findings into the Track Inspection System (TIS) to monitor track condition, ensuring the safety of our rail network.
  • Follow up on reported track issues to ensure compliance with standards, maintaining the integrity of our rail infrastructure.
  • Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, working with Transportation and Mechanical to establish cause and future prevention.
  • Perform safety audits for the unionized workforce and conduct safety engagements, promoting a culture of safety and security across our operations.
  • Plan, schedule, and perform track repairs and maintenance, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our rail network.
  • Respond to emergencies, demonstrating agility and adaptability in high-pressure situations.
Working Conditions

The role will be partially performed in an office environment and outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions, with irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Regular travel (up to 50%) across the assigned territory is required, with occasional overnight stays. The incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress, and respond to unexpected and emergency situations.

RequirementsExperience
  • Between 3 to 5 years of experience in safety compliance, with a focus on troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or in a regulatory or safety environment, with experience in budget management and labour relations.
Education/Certification/Designation
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED), with a Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Valid Driver's Licence and Certified in Railroad Operating Signals, with any additional designations considered an asset.
