About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment, where you will play a key role in supporting both MRI and PET functions. As an MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for:

  • Building MRI protocols as outlined in research documents and imaging guidelines
  • Performing PET-MRI and MRI procedures to aid in patient diagnosis, intervention, and treatment
  • Ensuring MRI safety standards are followed at all times
  • Operating, troubleshooting, and ensuring safe functioning of medical imaging and ancillary equipment
  • Preparing written and electronic reports to document procedures and test results
  • Attending research meetings as required
  • Assisting in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications, and data processing
  • Teaching, training, and educational research, safety, and quality improvement programs
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to review, manipulate, and archive digital medical images
  • Performing other related patient care responsibilities to facilitate optimal patient care
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Completion of a recognized post-diploma program in MRI, or recognized equivalent with MRI certification
  • Certification in Nuclear Medicine from a recognized academic institution
  • Completion of Cross-section Anatomy course and contrast injection course
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S) program, Level LL: Basic Rescuer certification
  • Minimum three (3) years recent clinical MRI experience
  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)
  • Membership with CAMRT
  • Ability to competently operate PET diagnostic equipment, an asset
  • Administration of radiopharmaceuticals intravenously under the direction of the nuclear medicine physician or authorized user
  • Calculation, measurement, and recording of radiation dosage of radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed of under the direction of the nuclear medicine physician
  • Disposal of radioactive materials and storage of radiopharmaceuticals following all CNSC requirements
  • Reconstruction of image data for subsequent quantitative analyses applying appropriate corrections for attenuation, random scatters, motion, etc. per direction of the nuclear medicine physician or physicist
  • Transfer and back-up of imaging data
  • Venipuncture or catheterization to provide access for administration of radiopharmaceuticals, and fluids or the removal of blood for metabolite, survival, or recovery (of the radiopharmaceutical) analysis
  • Monitoring of radiation work areas (wipe testing, weekly surveys) and other areas as needed
  • Maintenance of quarterly equipment (dose calibrator) linearity and constancy checks
  • Previous Cardiac MRI experience, an asset
  • Demonstration of excellence in technical skills and image quality
  • Demonstration of thoroughness and reliability in study documentation
  • Demonstration of independent decision-making
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently under stressful conditions
  • Ability to provide consistent, high-quality imaging, following specific guidelines without variation
  • Ability to perform research exams independently
  • Excellent problem-solving and recognition skills
  • Effective time management skills, ability to organize work and set priorities
  • Effective computer skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attendance, availability on evenings, potentially occasional weekends
