Join our team at BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services as a Registered Nurse (RN)/ Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in our Minimum and Medium Security Units. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality care to patients with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide direct care to patients in accordance with their care plans, including performing protocols and interventions, implementing behavior management strategies, and administering prescribed medication.
- Collect and document patient health care information, maintaining complete and accurate records of nursing observations, interventions, and evaluations.
- Plan and implement direct care to contribute to the physical and psychological well-being of patients, including assessing clinical requirements, developing care plans, and participating in interdisciplinary assessment and screening processes.
- Consult with nurses, members of the interdisciplinary team, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care planning and coordination.
- Support patients with psychosocial, life, and personal care skills, including teaching and providing guidance, supervising routine care, and identifying and pursuing advocacy issues on behalf of patients.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year of recent experience working in a forensic or acute psychiatric hospital setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current and updated knowledge of changes and developments in the practice of psychiatric nursing and of applicable Federal and Provincial legislation.
- Broad knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral, social emotional, and mental health/psychiatric issues in adults.
- Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods, and tools.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments related to Indigenous reconciliation and cultural safety.
