The Ministry of Education, W. Ross Macdonald School in Brantford requires an experienced aquatic individual to participate in the growth and development of students who are Blind, low-vision and/or deaf-blind, through an aquatics program.

What can I expect to do in this role?
  • Plan, organize and implement instructional, recreational and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and lifeguarding staff.
  • Schedule staff to ensure safety.
  • Maintain records.
  • Organize competitive and recreational swimming programs and special community events.
  • Implement school policies and to ensure the maintenance of aquatics equipment.
How do I qualify?Mandatory
  • National Lifeguard Society of Canada Lifeguard Certificate.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Courses in Behaviour Management Systems training or equivalent.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience working with students who are Blind/low vision and/or students who are deaf-blind.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective aquatic programs to meet the needs of students.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Public Pools regulations and relevant legislation and Provincial and Demonstration Schools policies and procedures, guidelines and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate with using hand-over-hand communication and other non-verbal methods of communication (or willingness to learn) to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals.
  • Good judgement and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to assist with student transfers.
