About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at Huawei Technologies Canada Co., Ltd. as a Researcher - Generative AI. This is a 12-month contract position that offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects in Embodied AI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a team of experienced researchers to develop innovative solutions for real-world challenges in Embodied AI.
  • Design and implement state-of-the-art approaches for Embodied AI applications, including generative AI, representation learning, foundation models, reasoning, planning, data generation and augmentation, reinforcement learning, and low-level control.
  • Translate mathematical problem definitions and model/solution specifications into efficient executable code.
  • Conduct thorough evaluation and empirical studies using robotic platforms in both simulation and real-world environments.
  • Propose high-impact intellectual properties (e.g., patents) and publish or contribute to research papers in top-tier AI venues.
Requirements
  • M.Sc./Ph.D. degree in computer science or related fields (Exceptional candidates with a Bachelor's degree will be considered).
  • Prior experience with generative AI, particularly diffusion models, normalizing flows, or generative flow networks.
  • Proven research record in AI, with at least one paper as the first author in top-tier machine learning venues, such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR.
  • Proficiency in Python programming language with emphasis on clean coding and building experimental settings.
  • Experience with one or more mainstream deep learning frameworks, e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow.
  • Experience with robotic platforms for tasks, such as object manipulation and navigation tasks (an asset).
  • Experience with large-language models and vision-language models (an asset).
  • Experience with the use of various transformer architectures and diffusion models.
