Horizon Health Network in beautiful New Brunswick is looking for a Senior Communications Advisor to join our team
Horizon's Communications and Community Engagement portfolio consists of an integrated team of communications, marketing, and engagement professionals.
Reporting to the Regional Director of Corporate Communications, the Senior Communications Advisor will be responsible for leading the development and execution of communications strategies, processes, and products to protect and advance Horizon's corporate reputation.
The incumbent will play a key role in supporting the Regional Director, the Interim Vice President, Communications and Community Engagement, and leaders across the organization, including Horizon's President and CEO and Executive Leadership Team, by providing strategic communications advice and project management support. The successful candidate will also provide issues management and media relations counsel and support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications strategy, project planning and execution:
- Developing communications plans and creative briefs, as well as communication tools and strategies, that demonstrate Horizon's expertise, leadership and priority areas to improve health care in New Brunswick.
- Identifying opportunities to share Horizon's corporate priorities through various internal and external channels.
- Developing print, digital, and social media content to execute corporate communications strategies.
- Working with internal and external clients to develop stories, client testimonials, documentaries, and social media content.
- Communicating ideas and working closely with graphic designers, videographers, translators, and other marketing communications professionals to bring projects to life.
- Understanding the importance of using research and measuring results and data to make informed, strategic communications decisions.
- Supporting the Regional Director with project management strategies and tactics.
Issues management and media relations
- Identify, analyze, and respond to emerging, ongoing and contentious issues affecting Horizon's health care programs, policies, and people.
- Develop and implement corporate communications strategies and initiative-based stakeholder relations plans to preserve and enhance Horizon's reputation among the organization's many audiences and stakeholders, both internal and external.
- As needed, support fielding and preparing responses to media requests on sensitive and/or contentious issues
- Have a deep understanding of the structures of the New Brunswick health care system and cultures, practices, current organizational strategy, and objectives within Horizon.
- Collaborate and maintain strong linkages to internal and external stakeholder colleagues and counterparts to keep abreast of issues, share best practices and collaborate on mutual efforts.
- Write strong, concise, and clear briefing notes.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate for this position will have skills, experience and success in:
- Writing content for publications, digital platforms (i.e.: blogs, social media, web), and corporate communications
- Meeting and liaising with clients to identify their communication needs
- Developing, executing, and measuring communication strategies and products
- Working with a creative team to develop communication products (i.e., graphics, videos)
- Preparing communication pieces for publications (i.e., conducting interviews, writing articles, proofreading, editing, etc.)
- Stakeholder relations, issues management and/or communications role within a large, complex, multi-stakeholder organization, including providing advice and briefing senior leaders.
- Issues management, communications, project/program management, crisis communications, including media relations.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative relationships and build consensus.
- Superior project management skills and the ability to provide project management support to senior leaders.
- Ability to work independently, to meet multiple demands and deadlines, often under time constraints and pressure.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Coordinating projects within the communications team
- Managing multiple tasks and projects
- Travelling within New Brunswick, sometimes on short notice
- Occasionally working evenings or weekends
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
- Working knowledge of Google Analytics and WordPress or other content management systems considered an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field and at least seven years of communications experience.
- Experience working in corporate communications, crisis communications and issues management for a large, complex institution.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Proficiency in French considered an asset.
- Written and spoken competence in English is required.
This position can be based in Saint John, Fredericton, Upper River Valley, Moncton, or Miramichi.
