The Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC) is a community centre for wellness and active living. With aquatic amenities, a fitness facility, massage therapy, and other offerings onsite, there is something for all ages and abilities to enjoy. Featuring the only 50-metre pool in the province, the facility hosts public swims and other gatherings for the communities of the Fundy region, along with sport tourism events that contribute to the local economy. The organization is also one of the largest providers of swimming lessons in New Brunswick.

Governed by the Saint John Aquatic Center Commission, the CGAC is a registered charity that is subsidized through the Fundy Regional Service Commission.

Position: Full-time Aquatics (Lifeguard)

Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, lifeguards are responsible to ensure the safety of all patrons in in our pools, hot tubs, saunas, steam room, on the deck, and while using diving boards/platform and other aquatic amenities. Lifeguards must always remain alert, continuously scanning for potential and actual safety concerns and life-threatening emergencies.

As a member of the Aquatics team, lifeguards are expected to work cooperatively with other staff to meet the needs of our patrons and to increase the level of customer satisfaction in pool activities. They also assist in the promotion of programs and activities in the facility. Lifeguards must attend and participate in all mandatory training and information sessions. They are required to maintain a professional image at all times and wear any required uniform. They must ensure that all necessary records are maintained accurately and submitted on a timely basis.

The successful applicant must be able to work weekday daytime hours or a combination of daytime/evening hours and will be required to teach lessons if needed. Successful candidates who are not currently qualified as swim instructors but have the appropriate knowledge are still able to teach Swim-to-Survive and certain private lessons.

As a full-time employee, you will be expected to have an elevated knowledge of overall operations and programming to facilitate collaboration and communications with other departments within the facility.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or recognized equivalent
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool certification
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C/AED
  • WHMIS (can be obtained during the hiring process)
