About the RoleThe Vessel Planner is a critical position responsible for the efficient and safe planning and stowage of vessel operations, ensuring the effective loading and unloading of containerized cargo.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute plans for loading and discharging containerized shipping vessels, ensuring optimal efficiency and safety.
- Utilize optimization programs and strategies to maximize vessel operations.
- Monitor vessel operations for accuracy, safety, and compliance with regulations.
- Prepare required documents for loading or discharge of containers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate daily labor and equipment requirements to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Identify successes and variances, providing advice on addressing issues and improving processes.
- Liaise with yard, gate, and rail operations to maximize container yard utilization and efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with vessel planners, yard planners, agents, port captains, ship officers, and crew.
- Prepare vessel performance summaries for customers, billing, and operations departments.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and rectify unsafe conditions, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, HSSE protocols, and security measures.
- Provide training and ensure personnel understand safety, security, and disciplinary policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- 3 years of experience in logistics or a similar field.
- A degree in business, logistics, or a similar field is preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and make accurate decisions.
- Proficient in computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Comprehensive understanding of ship loading operations, vessel construction, cargo stowage, cargo securing, and applicable regulations.
- Flexibility to meet the requirements of a 24/7 operation.
- Fluent in English.
- Previous Canadian work experience or experience with Canadian industries is preferred.
- Knowledge of Navis/N4, XPS, and/or Zodiac TOS is preferred.
- Perform duties with professionalism and integrity.
- Strive for high ethical standards and quality service.
- Follow relevant regulations and lawful directions.
- Treat colleagues with respect and courtesy.
- Maintain confidentiality of business affairs.
