Description

To give the opportunity to high school students between the ages of 15-19 to find summer employment while at the same time develop an understanding of rising need of community service programs in our community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collecting, sorting and packing food donations
  • Computer data entry
  • Distributing items to clients
  • Assisting with preparations for lunch programs and dinner program
  • Being able to work within a large team as well as independently
  • Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • There are 2 temporary full time positions working Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 9:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. and Thursdays: 9:00a.m. - 7:00p.m. for 9 weeks starting July 2, 2024

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
  • This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
  • aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
  • holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
  • An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Standard First Aid and CPR, an asset

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Previous experience in community services, considered an asset

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Be motivated and self disciplined
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality
  • Must be able to work in a Christian atmosphere and promote the goals of the program
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
