Detailed Overview

Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Community Outpatient Team, the Psychologist is responsible for the provision of a full range of psychological services in a multidisciplinary team that provides mental health services to the community.
Responsibilities

  1. Provides psychological treatment and case management to individuals with serious mental health problems by selecting from an array of treatment approaches that seems most suited to the client's needs, personality and level of functioning.
  2. Provides rehabilitative treatment through collaboration with the multidisciplinary team for training and/or social rehabilitation of clients' with persistent mental illness.
  3. Conducts assessments through a variety of treatment modalities including interviewing behavioural, observation, self report inventories and psychologist administered test batteries.
  4. Provides comprehensive oral written assessment of client functioning that may include specific information on any of the following areas: intellectual, neuropsychological, emotional, personality, psychopatholgy, interests and aptitudes.
  5. Offers consultation to colleagues on assessment and treatment issues, which may involve a direct consultation as with a formal assessment, co-therapy, or a discussion with the colleague over concerns regarding a particular client.
  6. Acts as a senior non-medical therapist with complex issues.
  7. Consults with community professionals and agencies on psychological issues.
  8. Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team by participating in team meetings and in the decision making process as it relates to team functioning and provision of service.
  9. Produces and maintains confidential client clinical records in accordance with established standards and procedures; writes timely and accurate reports of relevant observations and evaluation of care to ensure continuity of communication and full client documentation.
  10. Participates and promotes educational programs on therapeutic and assessment techniques at the team, community and regional level.
  11. Initiates and carries out program evaluation in consultation with the Team Coordinator by suggesting hypotheses, identifying relevant variables, formulating a research design and carrying it out.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned
    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from a recognized university, plus five (5) years' recent, related experience in the provision of mental health services.

    Current registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia (CPBC).

    Valid BC Driver's License and possession of personal vehicle for business use.

  14. Demonstrated knowledge of developmental theories, family and social dynamics, treatment and behaviour management modalities and psychological testing and interpretation.
  15. Ability to prepare comprehensive written assessments.
  16. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation.
  17. Demonstrated sound knowledge of the service delivery systems at the local, regional and provincial level.
  18. Demonstrated ability in implementing policies and procedures.
  19. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  20. Ability to deal effectively with others.
  21. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  22. Ability to operate related equipment.
  23. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
