Research Scientist

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr. Pieter Cullis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for synthesizing iron oxide nanoparticles (IONP) and gold nanoparticles (GNP) with optimized encapsulation properties in lipid nanoparticles (LNP) containing small molecule cancer drugs and nucleic acid based drugs. This will involve the synthesis of a large range of IONP and GNP with hydrophobic or negatively charged surface properties and formulating into LNP for testing purposes.
Key Responsibilities- Design and synthesize IONP and GNP with controlled size and surface properties.
- Optimize the encapsulation of small molecule cancer drugs and nucleic acid based drugs in LNP.
- Develop and implement methods for triggered release of cancer drugs or nucleic acid drugs in response to radiofrequency radiation or pulsed laser light.
- Collaborate with the research team to design and conduct experiments to test the efficacy of LNP formulations.
- Contribute to the development of new research projects and initiatives in the laboratory.
- PhD and postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field, such as nanotechnology or materials science.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding research environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
