This position is located at our Penhorwood Site, approximately 70km west of Timmins towards Foleyet, and requires daily travel for scheduled shifts.
The Mine and Laboratory Technician reports to the Mine Manager and is responsible for assisting with the mine campaign and related activities, overseeing sampling and laboratory operations, and ensuring quality control.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Directing and coordinating mining activities to optimize mining operations and ore utilization.
- Surveying, sampling, preparing, and analyzing blasthole samples, and elaborating an extraction/production plan.
- Ensuring quality control for both mining and production laboratory operations.
The key tasks and responsibilities of this position include:
- Following and promoting company Health and Safety rules, as well as understanding OHSA's rules and regulations.
- Providing accurate surveys for production layouts, site layouts, month-end reports, and as-built databases.
- Surveying, sampling, preparing, and analyzing blasthole samples.
- Organizing infill drilling campaigns and analyzing samples.
- Understanding local geology and talc grade for ore grading in the pit.
- Managing waste dump progress and rehabilitation according to waste dump designs.
- Assisting with pit dewatering systems, water sampling, and water management.
- Monitoring and assisting with stockpile management, managing stockpile elevation, and clean-up.
- Updating plant operators on stockpile quality and tonnages.
- Assisting with blasting watch.
- Understanding quality requirements for the mine and plant (ISO).
- Managing and calibrating laboratory equipment.
- Holding a quality control journal and issuing mine and lab quality reports.
- Reviewing and updating laboratory work instructions.
- Assisting with procurement when necessary.
- Understanding concentrator and mill processes in relation to ore consumption and ore composition.
- Performing other functions as required.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A diploma from a college or university in minerals/mining engineering or laboratory technician.
- Knowledge and understanding of quality control and quality systems.
- A G2 license.
- Drone pilot certificate - advanced operations is an asset.
- Knowledge of flying drones is an asset.
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- GPS surveying equipment usage is an asset - Trimble/Leica.
- Knowledge of a mining/surveying software like Surpac. Pix 4D, etc. is an asset.
- Understanding sampling and quality rules.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Work outside in Northern Ontario weather, especially during the winter mining campaign.
- Lift samples and use sample preparation equipment, which may require lifting up to 25kg.
- Work in an environment with noise levels exceeding 85 dB near drill rigs and mills.
- Be a quick learner and comfortable working with minimal supervision.
- Undergo pre-employment drug screening.
This position is based at the Penhorwood Mine, with travel to the site required on a daily basis. A travel allowance is provided.
The work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with every other Friday off. The work schedule may fluctuate seasonally.
