GENERAL STATEMENT

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Officer, and in collaboration with appropriate faculty, administers, negotiates, confirms and monitors agency-based/hospital practice placements in School programs.

A thorough knowledge of database systems and tracking information is needed to maintain the records and is used to liaise with facilities and College faculty and staff.

The Practice Placement Assistant works with a high volume of information and materials that may be of a confidential and sensitive nature.

Attending some meetings in the evening is necessary and travel between campuses and to community settings may be required.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Suggests potential placement sites to faculty for assessment;
  • Informs agencies of course/program descriptions, placement outcomes, dates and times of placements;
  • Actively collects, reviews, formats and submits placement requests to health authority and agency or facility managers;
  • Negotiates with practice agencies, other educational programs and faculty, as necessary;
  • Facilitates and mediates the resolution of conflicts between sites and program needs; deals directly with issues or refers appropriately;
  • Facilitates the adaptation of the placement plan, as needed, in response to student attrition, changes on the units, etc.;
  • Coordinates the booking of Post Conference rooms;
  • Responds to infection outbreaks and employs appropriate crisis and conflict management strategies where necessary;
  • Develops and updates existing spreadsheets/yearly overviews for each program;
  • Administers a database of practice placement sites and contact information;
  • Provides tracking information and documents for various placements and programs;
  • Interprets, maintains and coordinates a large volume of information which may include student information, curriculum, faculty, facility issues, policies; distributes information to the Dean, Chairs/Program Leaders and appropriate faculty members;
  • Organizes, plans and coordinates practicum planning and practice related meetings and placement planning meetings with other educational programs and employer representatives;
  • Consults with external agencies and community partners in establishing processes related to practice;
  • Recommends, implements, designs and modifies procedures for placements;
  • Presents reports and updates on placement issues at Advisory and Chair meetings;
  • Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity.
    Qualifications Baccalaureate degree in a health-related field and two years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Broad knowledge of programs requiring practicum and clinical placements, understanding of current practice education issues, and the provincial health care system. Excellent presentation, as well as written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated tact, discretion and sensitivity to diverse student populations. Demonstrated ability to be multi-task oriented, self-directed, to make decisions and to meet deadlines and changing priorities while maintaining a high level of service. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Professional judgment is required as well as superior accuracy and attention to details. Demonstrated ability to use all aspects of the Microsoft Office Suite at an advanced level.
